Some days you just get lucky. Found this 25X31 frame, had forgotten the canvas I was working on was also 25X31, one that had been custom made several months ago. The somewhat antiqued finish as well as the colour, works well with the subject, an old bridge in Beacon Hill Park.

As I wasn’t pleased with how this piece had turned out, I repainted the entire surface. The design has been strengthened by both changing the identically sized shapes, and connecting the dark values. An early value sketch would have saved some time on this one.

We had been plein-air painting at Sunshine Meadows and our fingers were so cold we decided to head up to Standish mountain lookout. A storm has passed overhead, then finally  the sun arrived. The new crisp greens of summer were a welcoming sight.
