This 36X48 oil was done from a favorite photo taken at Medicine Lake in Jasper National Park. A group of us us travelled to Jasper to paint with Doris McCarthy. She passed away recently, and I wanted to paint this location again. I remember how she was hunched over, in front of the enormous boulders, painting a large watercolor. She had truly mastered the art of simplification, and greatly influenced the way that I painted. Twelve years later, and it feels like it was yesterday.
