I wanted to create a warm winter scene so I started with a series of glazes and added the opague pigments on top. It doesn’t have the contrasts I normally create; however, it does capture the feeling of the place.

After a wonderful summer visit with family on the west coast this summer, we decided it was time to head to the east coast.

Late this September Lewis and I went to visit friends in New Bruinswick. They took us to Hopewell Rocks at the amazing Bay of Fundy and kindly lent us a car to use while we were there. We headed to Halifax and took a tour of Peggy’s Cove, then crossed by ferry, to the beautiful red sandsĀ  of PEI. Took another 800 reference photos.

Attended the Story of Buddy Holly show in Charlottetown, it was amazing! Then headed back to see our friends and spend time with them at their cottage. Even played bridge which I haven’t done in years. Wish some of Calgary friends knew how to play.-guess we’ll have to return to NB for another game.

As always, it seems like I need new paintings for the gallery so am hoping to have six new pieces finished by the end of this month.

The commission for ASC was completed in lots of time, and was picked up on August 23rd. Now we need to cross our fingers and hope the framer has enough moulding in stock for these three large pieces. Am hoping I’ll get to see it after its been installed.

This was a large project (42X172), that took a lot of planning, and a lot of measuring, to be sure that everything would line up properly when it is installed. Am feeling a bit sad that its so close to completion, so may as well start a new one.

Sometimes I’ll modify the design or colours slightly until the painting has the feeling I want. The reference photo had green hills and a cloudy grey blue sky. The mountains had no snow on them and their shapes weren’t varied, there weren’t any bodies of water either. I designed everything the way I wanted it to be rather than the way it looked.

Have decided that these two work well together, and am ready to get started on the third and final piece.

This 8X8 acrylic colour study was left with the client. It was great to be able to visit the space with Anna, and to meet with the clients.

The square acrylic which will be hung on the left side of the three pieces, was completed first. Additional details, if required, will be added last, after the three paintings have been completed.
